Ballet Palm Beach participated in a new fundraising program, Power2Give.  Hosted by the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Ballet Palm Beach raised nearly $10,000 within 24 hours of the program launch.  The project was titled “Help Keep Us On Our Toes! Sponsor a Dancer”.  The purpose of the fundraising project was to secure funds to hire an additional dancer for the productions of Giselle and The Nutcracker.  The following week twenty-year-old Mattia Cuda was hired and began rehearsing for the production of Giselle, which opens October 24th at the Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College.

“We are very thankful for Power2Give!  Although the funds are being used to hire an additional dancer for our first two productions, Giselle and The Nutcracker, our goal is to raise money to employ this dancer for our spring productions too.” said Artistic Director Colleen Smith.  “Funding for dancers is the most important way to help our ballet company… without dancers we don’t have a professional ballet company.”  Employing professional dancers for the local ballet company gives ballet students the opportunity to perform alongside professionals and brings the community the gift of professional ballet productions.

The fundraising program uses a crowdfunding platform to raise money for 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts and cultural organizations located in Palm Beach County.  Cultural organizations have the opportunity to post arts, science, history and heritage projects in need of funding.  Individuals visit the site and make donations directed to projects about which they are passionate.  The donations are made to the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, which is a 501(c)(3) organization who distributes gifted donations to those charities that are chosen by the donor. About 12 cents of every dollar is used cover administrative costs, however an anonymous donor pledged $70,000 to match any donations that are made through the Power2Give.

Once a project is fulfilled a new one can be posted.  Ballet Palm Beach’s next project is titled “We’re Itching to Get Stitching”.  The purpose of the project is to raise money for costuming expenses for Giselle and The Nutcracker.  For more information please go to http://www.power2give.org/PalmBeachCounty/projects.
