BALLET PALM BEACH ANNUAL LUNCHEON CELEBRATION WITH PERFORMANCE OF GEORGE BALANCHINE’S™ TSCHAIKOVSKY PAS DE DEUX

February 28, 2018 (Palm Beach, FL) –Ballet Palm Beach, the professional ballet company of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, recently celebrated 25 years of quality dance training and first-rate performances at their Annual Luncheon: Looking to the Future at The Beach Club in Palm Beach.

After seaside cocktails in the Ocean Lounge, the guests moved into the sun-drenched Garden Room for an exhilarating performance of Balanchine’s timeless classic, Tschaikovsky Pas de Deuxperformed by principal dancers Lily Ojea Loveland and Aaron Melendrez. This rousing performance was introduced and put into historical perspective by Steven Caras, a Balanchine protégé and subject of the Emmy Award-winning film, Steven Caras: See Them Dance. Caras, who is also an adviser to Ballet Palm Beach, was graciously introduced by Ballet Palm Beach’s visionary founder, Colleen Smith.   In Caras’ enlightening presentation, he noted the following: “When George Balanchine was invited to establish a ballet company in the U.S., his reply was immediate and direct: “Yes… but first, a school.” Caras likened this wise philosophy to that of Smith’s. “In establishing her school sixteen years before its professional dance company offspring,” he continued, “whether Colleen realized it or not, she was following the lead of a man who changed the way the world viewed ballet.  She has been on that very mission ever since – here in this community and well-beyond.”

After the performance, Co-Chairs Kitty Silverstein and Catherine Stewart invited guests to the oceanfront Ballroom for a sumptuous lunch, remarks about the history and community outreach programs of Ballet Palm Beach, and a drawing for ultra-luxury prizes donated by local retailers. All proceeds from the Annual Luncheon support Ballet Palm Beach’s mainstage performances and community outreach programs, which benefit several thousand individuals annually. For more information about Ballet Palm Beach: (561) 630-8235 or visit www.balletpalmbeach.org.
